bittersweet.

we're back in nebraska and it's seriously has never felt so good. we got home late friday/early saturday morning and we're all overcome with excitement. the smell, the feel, ah home! lane went nutty, he stayed up and played till 2am. we all felt like we were reuniting with an old friend...home. coming here is so bittersweet. we could hardly wait to get back and be in our own home and see family but we've known what this week has in store...packing. we've been in complete denial that this is why we're back. i feel like complaining, let's stay positive. right? sometimes it's easier said then done.

in lane's world...he's maybe starting the feel better, maybe. we were weary of what to expect of last nights sleeping at home. before, he would normally eat and then go to sleep in his crib for anywhere from 9-12 hours without waking. in colorado he would eat then lay down for about 20 minutes and then sleep and eat right on top of me all night or would cry otherwise. so, we had no idea what to expect. last night, he ate and laid down in his crib and slept for about 6 hours, eat and back to sleep for a few more hours. does he like his crib or the nebraska air? the crib is way easier to pack.
the other night lane would not let me put him down. he was perfectly happy and content to just lean on me. it was so sweet. i have to admit, i loooove these baby moments.

sick.

lane went back to the doctor because he just hasn't been himself. he hasn't smiled in days, won't sleep longer than 20 minutes without waking up from coughing, sneezing, snot, so much snot, moaning...oh the moaning, there isn't one minute of the day he isn't whining. it's so sad, he just can't get comfortable. the croup is better but now he has an ear infection. poor guy! plus as of today he is sporting a new top tooth. (he now has one left bottom and one left top tooth) too much at one time!

it's been absolutely gorgeous here. we had to go play outside. you can't get other kids sick when your outside, right? lane was pretty much expressionless the whole time expect for his newest trick of sticking out his tongue. (why? we don't know) this new tongue trick amplifies the drool to a new degree...its out of control!

croup.

poor baby lane has croup. and yes, it is as terrible as it sounds. last night (sunday) out of no where he started coughing and having a hard time breathing. he sounds like a coughing gremlin. oh, we feel so sorry for him. growing up and still to this day, if i was/am sick my mom always says "if i could take it away i would" i've never fully understood the depth of that till lane. ah, i just want to take it away for him. i would so much rather be sick, in pain, then have lane feel down. we went to the dr today, had a breathing treatment (20 minutes of crying/coughing) and a shot of antibiotic. so happy we went today because the doc said the 2nd and 3rd night are always the worst...tonight's our 2nd. hopefully we're one step ahead of this "croup."
*vance as a baby had croup every time he was teething. it could be in the genes? we're in for the long haul...

lane was treated to an extra long bath tonight. he even offered up some raspy smiles. and yes...that's a laundry basket. it works great to prevent him from slipping all around in the tub. genius idea.

afternoon.

sunday afternoon we got together with some longtime dear friends, the herrick family, to celebrate gabby's first birthday party. it was sooo great to be in a home, with a family, and to see a familiar face in colorado!

lane had so much fun at the birthday party that he crashed hard afterwards. it's these precious moments that make my heart melt, still such a baby. ooh, we love our baby boy.

i know, we've been updating this a lot lately but for valentine's day vance got me a new camera lens. it's been fun playing/experimenting with it...had to share some! (there are at least 100 more)

lane moved into a "big boy" carseat this week. he had looong outgrown his infant seat.

hockey.

the other night we went to a avalanche hockey game. we know little about hockey but found ourselves really getting into it. we even watched it on tv the next night. (who are we?) it was a fun night to go do something different, thanks to vance's work for tickets!...we'll go again!

lane's cute face made the big screen during the game. i tried to snatch a picture of it. yes, i'm "that" mom.

weekly check-in.

we're back in colorado and living it up at the hotel. woohoo. we are enjoying walks in the gorgeous weather, going to the mall, and lots of playing in the hotel room. lane's newest trick is standing up and then letting go of whatever he is holding on to. within 2-3 seconds he falls. doesn't even try to brace himself or bend his knees. just a straight board falling. due to this new trick he bonks his head at least 5 times a day. (not counting the 20 other times we catch him) he has an unreal amount of bruises on the noggin. poor kid.
*about the mall...lane is a true boy. we only last about ten minutes there and then the whining begins, so we leave. probably a good thing because i have yet to buy anything.

almost everyday we go on a walk to the little pond not too far from the hotel and watch the geese. there are seriously hundreds of them. they are everywhere and they aren't afraid of people. in fact, they chase us. they want to eat lane.
